Thousands took to the street in Los Angeles after President Trump deployed the National Guard after protests erupted when federal immigration authorities arrested dozens of people across the city.

The riots followed the acquittal of white police officers who were videotaped beating Black motorist Rodney King.
Trump made no secret of his willingness to exert a maximalist approach to enforcing immigration laws during his campaign. The fulfillment of that pledge is now on full display.
Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday 鈥渢o stop the vandalism, to stop the looting.鈥
Some previous deployments restored peace after local crackdowns or vigilante violence, but sometimes troops intensified tensions.
The order takes effect at noon Friday. It said the deployment violated the Tenth Amendment and exceeded Trump's statutory authority.
The use of Mexican and other flags during immigration protests is a form of symbolism many conservatives call anti-American, while others argue it's an expression of pride in one鈥檚 homeland.
Trump's administration has released to deportation officials the personal data for millions of Medicaid enrollees, including their immigration status.
