Melannie Daley is heading from the Big Ten to Blacksburg.
The former Northwestern guard announced Thursday on Instagram that she has committed to the Virginia Tech women’s basketball program.
Daley, who entered the transfer portal last month as a graduate transfer, has one season of eligibility remaining.
The 5-foot-11 Daley played in 27 games as a Northwestern senior this year, starting two. She averaged 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 26.7 minutes for the Big Ten school. She made just three 3-pointers.
The Hastings, New York, native scored 23 points against Utah this year. She had 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals against Maryland. She tallied 21 points against UNLV. She had 20 points, four assists and four steals against Penn State. She had 17 points against both Wisconsin and Oregon. She had 17 points and six assists against Indiana. She had 15 points against Iowa. She had 15 points and seven rebounds against Illinois. She had 15 points and six assists against Nebraska.
Northwestern went just 9-18 overall and 2-16 in the Big Ten this year.
Daley averaged a team-high 13.3 points as a junior. She also averaged 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 27.3 minutes. She played in 30 games, starting 19.

She scored 24 points against Indiana that year. She had 21 points against Purdue. She had a pair of 20-point outings against Rutgers. She had 19 points against Iowa and 18 against Michigan State. She tallied 16 points against Indiana and Minnesota.
Daley was sidelined by injury for most of her sophomore season. She played in just nine games, averaging 4.6 points and 10.2 minutes.
She played in 28 games as a freshman, starting nine. She averaged 6.5 points and 16.9 minutes.
Virginia Tech recruited her when she was in high school.
There are now 12 players set for Virginia Tech’s 2025-26 roster.
Daley becomes the third player that coach Megan Duffy has plucked out of the portal this spring, joining former Texas Tech forward/guard Kilah Freelon and former Purdue guard Sophie Swanson.
There are six returning scholarship players — Carleigh Wenzel, Carys Baker, Mackenzie Nelson, Kayl Petersen, Samyha Suffren and Leila Wells.
Virginia Tech signed three recruits last fall — Aniya Trent, Amani Jenkins and Kate Sears.
