ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Bassett High School graduate Sienna Bailey of Radford University won the 5,000 meters Wednesday on the final day of the Big South women’s outdoor track and field championships.
Bailey had a time of 17 minutes, 13.01 seconds.
Radford’s Jeylah Hamrick took second in the 400 meters (54.30 seconds) and third in the 200 meters (24.29).
Danae Niles of Radford finished third in the 100 meters (11.92).
The Radford foursome of Claire Keefe, Jaslyne Robinson, Mattie Flores (Radford High) and Hamrick finished third in the 4x400 relay (3:46.42, school record).
Radford finished fifth out of eight schools in the team standings. High Point won the title.

Moore gets scholarship

Former Washington and Lee runner Zach Moore has received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship of $10,000.
Moore, who was the co-valedictorian of the W&L class of 2024, is now pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Duke.
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually to those who excel academically and athletically. Moore was one of 21 current or former male winter-sports athletes to get a postgraduate scholarship this year.
SOFTBALL
McMillan makes cut
Virginia Tech senior outfielder Cori McMillan has been named one of 10 finalists for the USA Softball collegiate player of the year award.
McMillan becomes the third Hokie to make the cut as a top-10 finalist for that honor, joining Angela Tincher (2008) and Keely Rochard (2022).
McMillan is batting .452 and leads the nation with 30 homers. She has broken the school and ACC single-season marks for homers.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Radford signs two forwards
Radford announced the signing of 6-foot forward Anaiah Jenkins and 6-2 forward Anna Chacha on Wednesday.
Jenkins, a rising junior, spent the past two seasons at CAA member Towson. She averaged 2.7 points and 12.6 minutes as a sophomore this year. She played in 30 games this year, starting five.
Chacha is an incoming freshman from Tanzania, East Africa. She has been playing for Mountain Mission School in Grundy. She was named the high school regional player of the week in January 2024 and in March of this year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Radford adds recruit
Frederik Erichsen, a 6-9 forward from Denmark, announced on Instagram that he has committed to Radford.
Erichsen, 18, averaged 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 23.8 minutes in 27 games this year for Orange Academy Ulm, which plays in the third-highest tier of German pro basketball.
He averaged 4.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in three games for Denmark in the European Championships this year.
