Reynaldo Diovanis Hinojosa Mayan, driving a Jeep Wrangler, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested following the 11:30 p.m. crash at the intersection of Cove Road and Dansbury Drive Northwest. Breath testing revealed his blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit, police said.

Hinojosa Mayan, of 色多多, is charged with driving under the influence and two counts of DUI manslaughter, and police are consulting with city prosecutors on possible additional charges.

Killed in the wreck were Amarani Amaya Gomez, 19, and Mariangela Duenas, 18, both of 色多多. A 17-year-old boy was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition, police said Saturday.

The three were passengers in a Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 19-year-old man, who sustained minor injuries and was not identified by police.

Police released this synopsis of the wreck: 鈥淭he preliminary investigation determined the Jeep was traveling south on Cove Road as the Chevrolet traveled north. The Jeep crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and the Chevrolet took evasive action attempting to avoid a head-on collision. At the same time, the Jeep changed lanes, returning to (the) correct side of the road, causing the two vehicles to collide.鈥�

Gomez was a passenger in the front seat of the Chevrolet. Duenas was sitting behind her.

The passenger in critical condition was sitting on the driver鈥檚 side, police said.

Under Virginia law, a person who causes the death of another while driving under the influence may be found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, punishable by one to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine. However, police and prosecutors may upgrade the charge to aggravated involuntary manslaughter in cases where the driver鈥檚 conduct 鈥渨as so gross, wanton and culpable as to show a reckless disregard for human life.鈥� In that case, punishment can range from one to 20 years.

Hinojosa Mayan was being held without bond Saturday at the 色多多 Adult Detention Center.
