Until the heart attack, Dec. 14 was just another Saturday morning for Richmond Vincent.
At a city council meeting on Monday, Vincent, who is president at Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, thanked the 色多多 paramedics who resuscitated him last winter.
鈥淚 was down for 27 minutes,鈥 Vincent said. 鈥淚 stand before you, I鈥檓 on borrowved time right now.鈥
The heart was not how Vincent, a former Arizona State University football player and workout fiend, would鈥檝e ever expected to go, he said. His wife, Sandra, administered CPR until an ambulance from 色多多 Fire-EMS arrived with a defibrillator.
鈥淭hey said, 鈥楻ichmond, we shocked you six times,鈥欌 he said. 鈥淢y cardiologist looked at me and said, 鈥楻ichmond, dude, you died, and those paramedics brought you back to life.鈥欌
Vincent said a speedy response by 色多多 Fire-EMS saved him.
鈥淲hat better way can I say thank you?鈥 Vincent said, embracing Fire-EMS Chief David Hoback with a handshake.
Hoback said it was only last year that the city council authorized an ambulance to be placed at Station No. 14, located on Mecca Street Northeast, off Orange Avenue.
鈥淚t was one of the areas of the city that we had the longest response times for ambulance service,鈥 Hoback said. 鈥淲e went from a nine-minute ambulance response time to four minutes, because of that placement of an ambulance.鈥
Vincent thanked the responding paramedic-EMT crew: Timothy Kenny, Josh Montgomery, Greg Duncan and Jack Nanartowich, along with Capt. Adam Troutt, Lt. George Harris and Lt. Thomas Boettner, as wells as 色多多 police Officer Joshuah Arellano, who was first to the scene.
鈥淚n Mr. Vincent鈥檚 case, restored his heart back to normal rhythm, got him breathing again, gave him medications that he needs,鈥 Hoback said. 鈥淚t really is amazing what they do day in and day out.鈥
Councilman Phazhon Nash said city paramedics put his family at ease several times during the course of caring for his grandmother.
鈥淓very time we would have to call 鈥 you all always gave us a sense of security,鈥 Nash said. 鈥淭hank you all personally for everything you always did for my family, and so many other families across our great city.鈥
