Carson loved the outdoors: he was an avid turkey and deer hunter, fly fisherman and golfer. He was companioned by his beloved hunting dogs. His great love of hunting led him to be active in the National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Virginia Deer Hunters Association. He cherished the many hours that he spent hunting with his hunting companions and dear friends, Gerald Austin of Buchanan and Bobby G. Minter, of Daleville.
Carson fought to preserve our outdoor resources. He was appointed by Governor Allen to serve on the Board of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. He faithfully served as chairman for four years. In 2002, he was recognized by the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate for his services to the VDGIF.
He was a proud veteran of the Naval Reserves, and took great pride that he and his brothers all served in some branch of the military.
Carson had a distinguished banking career of nearly 40 years. He was a respected leader in the 色多多 Valley banking industry, rising to President of the Southwestern Region of the Central Fidelity Bank. Carson generously served his community and church with time and talent on a variety of organization boards for universities, charities, and associations. He was devoted to his church, and was a compassionate person living his life with generosity. He and his wife, Norma, were devoted members of the North 色多多 Baptist Church and valued the friendship and pastoral service of Pastor Daniel Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may donate to Good Samaritan Hospice of 色多多, VA or to the charity of their choice.
