É«¶à¶à Fire-EMS crews responded to a fire in the historic City Market Building in downtown É«¶à¶à late Friday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched at 2:55 p.m., according to a social media post from É«¶à¶à Fire-EMS. The fire started at Fork in the Market restaurant, Deputy Fire Marshal Kevin Taylor said. Streets around the building were closed Friday as crews worked.
A fire started at Fork in the Market restaurant, located within the historic City Market Building in downtown É«¶à¶à, on Friday.
Officers from the É«¶à¶à City Police Department arrived on scene, confirmed the fire and began assisting with evacuations, according to the post. When crews arrived, they reported heavy smoke coming from the side of the building.
The fire was reported as extinguished at 3:47 p.m. It was contained to the kitchen hood system and crews stayed on scene to ventilate the entire building, according to the post.
Other restaurants in the building were forced to close Friday due to smoke. The market building issued a thanks to first responders later Friday evening and said it anticipated being able to reopen on Saturday, though Fork in the Market would be closed until further notice.
No injuries were reported, and an estimated damage amount has not been determined. Personnel from the fire marshal’s office were on scene to determine what caused the fire and when the building will be safe to reopen, according to the É«¶à¶à Fire-EMS post.
