A Largo, Florida, man was removed from an Allegiant Air flight headed to 色多多 on Sunday and is under investigation by the FBI for making a bomb threat.
Taj Malik Taylor, 27, was a passenger on Allegiant flight 1023 from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport to the 色多多-Blacksburg Airport when he told another passenger that his laptop was a bomb. That passenger immediately notified the flight attendants, according to a news release from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
The plane returned to St. Pete-Clearwater airport within minutes. Pinnellas County Sheriff's Office K9s searched Taylor's belongings and found no bomb. The case was referred to the FBI.
A criminal complaint affidavit filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Tampa states the FBI has probable cause to believe that Taylor violated federal law by falsely claiming he was in possession of an explosive device.
According to the affidavit, Taylor did not admit to making bomb threats but said the person he was seated beside was rude to him. He also said that he recently was released from a mental health facility, and had taken medication the night before and "was currently suffering from a lack of clarity. He further stated that he has more clarity when he takes his medication."
