For the third straight year, the Virginia Tech men鈥檚 basketball team will square off against South Carolina in the upcoming season.
But this time, the duel will be part of the ACC-SEC Challenge.
The Challenge pairings for both men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball were announced Thursday.
The Virginia Tech men will visit South Carolina on Dec. 2 in the third annual Challenge.
They have become familiar foes. The Gamecocks beat the Hokies 70-60 in the third-place game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament in Florida last November and defeated the Hokies 79-77 in November 2023 as part of a Hall of Fame Series tripleheader at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Virginia men will visit 2025 NCAA Tournament participant Texas on Dec. 3.

The Virginia Tech women will host Florida on Dec. 4. So the Challenge will once again not be pitting the Hokies against former coach Kenny Brooks, who is entering his second season at Kentucky. Brooks鈥 team will be visiting Miami for this year鈥檚 Challenge.
The UVa women will visit 2025 NCAA Tournament participant Vanderbilt on Dec. 3.
The Southeastern Conference went 14-2 in the men鈥檚 Challenge last year, wounding the ACC鈥檚 men鈥檚 basketball reputation for the rest of the season.
The Virginia Tech men have not played a game at South Carolina since January 1991.
The Gamecocks went 12-20 overall and 2-16 in SEC play last year. It was Lamont Paris鈥 third season at the helm of the Gamecocks. South Carolina must replace all five starters from last year鈥檚 team.
Virginia Tech and South Carolina will also be squaring off in football this year.
The UVa men have never played Texas before. Both teams have new coaches 鈥 Ryan Odom for UVa and former Arizona and Xavier coach Sean Miller for Texas.
The Longhorns went 19-16 overall and 6-12 in SEC play last season. Rodney Terry was fired as the Longhorns鈥 coach in the wake of a loss to Xavier in a 鈥淔irst Four鈥 game in the NCAAs. Texas returns starters Jordan Pope (11 ppg) and Tramon Mark (10.6 ppg).
The Virginia Tech women will be playing at home for the first time in the ACC-SEC Challenge. They lost at LSU two years ago and won at Georgia last year.

Florida standout Liv McGill and the Gators will visit the Virginia Tech women鈥檚 basketball team in the ACC-SEC Challenge in December.
The Hokies women will be playing the Gators for the first time since December 2014.
The Gators went 19-18 overall and 5-11 in SEC play last season. Like Tech, the Gators ended last season in the WBIT. Minnesota beat Florida in the WBIT semifinals.
Florida returns three starters, including 2025 SEC all-freshman pick Liv McGill (16.5 ppg). Kelly Rae Finley is entering her fifth season as Florida鈥檚 coach.
The UVa women have not played Vanderbilt since November 2012 in Puerto Rico.
The Commodores went 22-11 overall and 8-8 in SEC play last season. They lost to Oregon in overtime in the round of 64 in the NCAAs. Former UConn star Shea Ralph is entering her fifth season at the helm of the Commodores.
Vandy star Mikayla Blakes won the Tamika Catchings national freshman of the year award from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association last season, when she averaged 23.3 points. The Associated Press third-team All-American scored an NCAA-record 55 points in an overtime win at Auburn.
Khamil Pierre (20.4 ppg) is also returning for Vandy.
The SEC went 10-6 in last year鈥檚 women鈥檚 Challenge.
The men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 Challenge game times and TV channels have not yet been announced. Games will air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, the ACC Network and the SEC Network.
Other men鈥檚 Challenge games of note include reigning NCAA champ Florida at Duke; North Carolina at Kentucky; Clemson at Alabama; Louisville at Arkansas; SMU at Vanderbilt; N.C. State at Auburn; Tennessee at Syracuse; Miami at Mississippi; and Texas A&M at Pittsburgh.
Other women鈥檚 Challenge games of note include South Carolina at Louisville; LSU at Duke; N.C. State at Oklahoma; UNC at Texas; Notre Dame at Mississippi; Tennessee at Stanford; Georgia at Florida State; Clemson at Alabama; Georgia Tech at Texas A&M; and California at Missouri.
