CHARLOTTESVILLE — Virginia cornerback Dre Walker will miss significant time this coming fall because of a leg injury, sources confirmed to The Daily Progress on Wednesday evening.
Walker, who is now in his third year in the program, had his first two years hampered by various injuries, too.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder showed promise as a freshman when he started three times and recorded his first career interception against Boston College. But across 2023 and 2024, Walker only appeared in 13 games, including just four contests this past fall.
He was a potential contributor at cornerback for the Cavaliers if he could stay healthy. Walker has the combination of size and athleticism that defensive coordinator John Rudzinski values in the secondary.
Instead, Walker’s setback is the second long-term injury for the secondary.
Virginia cornerback Dre Walker gets set before a play during last season’s game against Duke at Scott Stadium.

During an April spring practice, returning starter Jam Jackson suffered a season-ending knee injury.
After the spring, though, UVa added to its group of corners by acquiring transfers at the position in Emmanuel Karnley (Miami/Arizona), Ja’Maric Morris (Georgia State), Jordan Robinson (Kentucky/Cincinnati), Donavon Platt (Army) and Kenan Johnson (Utah/Georgia Tech).
