RICHMOND 鈥 The nurse accused of abusing newborn babies at Henrico Doctors' Hospital is facing new charges.聽, who already faces 12 counts of child abuse and malicious wounding, was served with new charges Tuesday, said her attorney, Jeffrey Everhart. Strotman has a hearing Wednesday in Henrico County Circuit Court.
It is unclear what prosecutors are alleging. The court's website did not list new charges Tuesday afternoon, and Everhart said he had not seen them yet. Shannon Taylor, Henrico's top prosecutor, said that because the charges are sealed, she cannot say what they allege or how many charges exist.聽
Prosecutors previously said they discovered nine victims, all newborn babies, and they have charged Strotman in connection with five of them. All but one of the infants suffered unexplained fractures while in the neonatal intensive-care unit at Henrico Doctors'.聽
Prosecutors have issued charges on four different dates this year. The investigation requires the time to review medical records and surveillance video, Taylor said earlier this year.聽
Strotman has not made a plea and is expected to go to trial in early 2026. She told a police officer she may have been too rough with one of the children, a prosecutor said earlier this year.聽
Last week, the state . The Virginia Board of Nursing accused her of abusing or neglecting seven preterm babies.聽聽
According to the board's investigation report, surveillance video shows Strotman bending the legs of several infants toward their heads, using "excessive force" and unhooking a vital signs monitor so the alarm would not sound before placed her hands on the baby.聽
In one instance the board report describes Strotman as "essentially folding Baby F in half or crunching him." The pressure was so intense, the baby's oxygen saturation and heart rates dropped, causing an alarm bell to sound.聽
