Blair Jackson hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Pioneers to an extra-innings victory over the Maroons in the third-place game of the Mountain Empire District tournament.
Jackson finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate and struck out 12 batters in the circle聽for Fort Chiswell (15-6).
Caroline Harris scored the lone run for George Wythe (7-13) on a bunt from Jadelyn Faulkner.

Bruzzo-Morrello wins distance double
Marion senior Domenico Bruzzo-Morello won both the 1,600-meter run (4 minutes, 54.16 seconds) and 3,200 (10:03.82) at the Southwest District championships at Virginia High School in Bristol.
Also for the Scarlet Hurricanes, Daniel Lee won the 110 hurdles (16.97) and Jacob Mooney won the discus (148 feet, 1 inch).
On the girls side, Ruby Hoerter won the 1,600 (6:31.41) and 3,200 (13:33.07), while Brooke Langston won both the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and long jump (16 feet, 2.25 inches).
