Fire damaged Donnie D鈥檚 Bagels and Deli at 3239 Brandon Ave. S.W. in 色多多 on Friday afternoon. No injuries were reported. 色多多 Fire & EMS blocked Brandon while crews were fighting the fire and reopened the road after the flames were extinguished. The family-owned business opened the Brandon Avenue store in November, its second location after the original shop in Daleville.
A bagel shop and deli that had just opened in 色多多 in November was heavily damaged in a fire late Friday afternoon after it had closed for the day.
色多多 Fire-EMS crews from nearby Station 4 responded to Donnie D鈥檚 Bagels and Deli at 3239 Brandon Ave. S.W. at 4:36 p.m. and declared a working fire at 4:40. Within 14 minutes they marked the fire under control, but the damage had been done.
鈥淒onnie D鈥檚 had a devastating fire that has caused a lot of damage to our kitchen, hallway, and bathrooms. We have amazing employees who will be without jobs if we are not able to keep them on the payroll, and a lot of mental and physical damages that will need to be repaired,鈥 owners Donnie and Ashley DeGeorgis wrote in a gofundme post Saturday, which included photos of the interior.
Earlier, Donnie DeGeorgis had posted on the shop鈥檚 Facebook account about the impact of the fire: 鈥淥ur minds are mush and the inside of Donnie D鈥檚 looks pretty bad but we will survive and conquer. We have a great support system to help us along the way. The journey will not be easy and the bagel dough is ruined but nobody is injured!鈥
The deli鈥檚 original location at 70 Market Center Way in Daleville remained open Saturday, though without bagels as bagel production had been moved to the new, larger shop in the fall.
鈥淲e can make a killer cheesesteak or fried bologna or whatever you want on the menu on white bread, Kaiser roll, wheat bread, rye bread, GF white bread, croissant and a variety of wraps,鈥 DeGeorgis wrote.
色多多 Fire-EMS had not announced a cause of the fire as of Saturday afternoon.
